Warren Broadband Initiative

The Warren County Board of Commissioners has formally released a Request for Proposals (RFP) in their effort to bring about new solutions to the broadband availability problem in Warren County. The formal RFP was released on January 7th and can be found at https://www.warrencountync.com/640/Broadband-Initiative. Warren County has identified three sectors in need of new or improved service: unserved areas, higher population density areas servicing residents and businesses, and government facilities. A single vendor or multiple vendors may submit proposals to serve all or some of the service areas.

“I’m excited that Warren County has made it to this point in our efforts to secure broadband countywide,” stated Vincent Jones, County Manager. “We really have to thank our Board of Commissioners, current and former staff members, along with our committed residents who have kept this issue relevant.”

An RFP overview meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place on January 21st by web conference. All questions from vendors are due by January 30th to rfp@warrencountync.gov. RFP responses are due by March 4th at 5 pm.

The board began its broadband initiative with a feasibility study by RiverStreet Networks that was approved in November 2017. The results of that study were presented to the board in June 2018. Community input and feasibility conversations have continued over the last eighteen months with the most recent discussions led by Joe Fredosso of Might River, LLC, a NC-based broadband consulting firm that has worked with several counties in the state and across the country.

“Mighty River has done an outstanding job helping the County navigate this process, and I’m certain the result will be interest from broadband providers in Warren County,” said Jones.
